Happy Monday everyone… I wanted to share a pic that someone sent me from my home town, New York. I am feeling pretty emotional because the picture of the second single is a picture taken the year my father took me to my first, Times Square movie. It was a film called Uptown Saturday Night, directed by Sydney Poitier… Anyway, the thought that some day I would also have movies showing in Times Square was always a dream I aspired to from the age of seven. What I didn’t think would ever be possible was that I would actually be able to sing for the world. Because you are all so damn supportive of everything I do, I was able to turn a year of Quarantine into a year of magic. Gracias. Thank you for always believing in me. I hope my life makes yours better… all love, always. #DaysAreGone #FeelLikeIDo #Smile
I will never forget when Pablo called me and said that he would only come back to the fast and furious franchise because I was producing…. blessed to be able to make magic. #Alllove
We stopped in and made a donation, met with the youth that live there and the faculty that run the non profit organization, called Children of the Night. Proud of you all… Now I nominate @gal_gadot @neymarjr @robertdowneyjr @badgalriri
A random act of kindness…
India already breaking records… you called it. Wow.
As you all know I started acting when I was seven years old, and started bouncing in NYC when I was 17 to pay the bills. Failed the first time I came to Hollywood at 23 and then went back to NY to learn how to be a filmmaker because no one was giving me an opportunity to “make it”… I directed a short film called MultiFacial about a struggling multicultural actor trying to work in New York… I then came back to LA with my short film at 27 yrs old. At that time I would drive around with VHS copies of my short film in the trunk just in case I bumped into someone who could help me with my dreams. One day I was driving by the Four Seasons hotel when I saw one of my favorite actors walking into the hotel. Morgan Freeman… he was seriously one of my acting role models, I mean I remembered him from a show called Electric Company and always followed his career. This was my BIG chance, maybe I could after 20 years finally get noticed. So I pulled over, popped the trunk and ran after him to give him my short film…
Sunday night, twenty something years later, he stopped me, and began telling me the whole story of that day in front of the Four Seasons. Wow. It was so surreal! That is the moment that is captured in the picture of my previous post.
Almost 40 million people around the world saw what the PCA’s called their highlight speech… I guess I just want to Thank everyone again who was apart of creating such a great awards show. We needed an award show that reflects our beautiful world.
On behalf of the many great artists you championed that night, we thank you.
