This weekend was a very special weekend. We celebrated the 10th year anniversary of Marvel cinematic universe. Every director, writer, producer and A list actor was there for a group photo. It was surreal… The harmony displayed by the whole Marvel family. And then this happened… and I was a child again. Never in my wildest dreams did I think the man whose comics I once collected would know me. Protect your innocence, for there lies your magic. Thank you Stan Lee.
As you all know I started acting when I was seven years old, and started bouncing in NYC when I was 17 to pay the bills. Failed the first time I came to Hollywood at 23 and then went back to NY to learn how to be a filmmaker because no one was giving me an opportunity to “make it”… I directed a short film called MultiFacial about a struggling multicultural actor trying to work in New York… I then came back to LA with my short film at 27 yrs old. At that time I would drive around with VHS copies of my short film in the trunk just in case I bumped into someone who could help me with my dreams. One day I was driving by the Four Seasons hotel when I saw one of my favorite actors walking into the hotel. Morgan Freeman… he was seriously one of my acting role models, I mean I remembered him from a show called Electric Company and always followed his career. This was my BIG chance, maybe I could after 20 years finally get noticed. So I pulled over, popped the trunk and ran after him to give him my short film…
Sunday night, twenty something years later, he stopped me, and began telling me the whole story of that day in front of the Four Seasons. Wow. It was so surreal! That is the moment that is captured in the picture of my previous post.
Growing up, I always took pride in knowing we shared the same birthday… When I was lucky enough to realize my dreams and began making movies he reached out to me to send his niece, who was sick at the time, a signed Dvd. Someone who I respected for so long knew I existed and wanted me to fulfill his niece’s wishes. Profound moment.
Happy Birthday Nelson Mandela!

P.s. Cool fan art.
Don’t expect dreams to be punctual…
They come when they’re supposed to…
Ang Lee… Dreams do come true…
Some dreams simply take more time and effort to realize…
